A story you just HAVE to read...by a girl after my own heart !
But I feel like I have.
Does that count? It must.
I feel we have sipped coffee together, pouring out our hearts over pumpkin spice lattes. I feel as though we have walked through many seasons, laughing until our tummies hurt and crying over the things our hearts have endured.
We haven’t...
But I believe I feel this way because to me, that’s what a great storyteller does. They draw you into a moment, or a series of moments, and make those moments so real, you might just be able to touch them, walk through them and actually live them. Great story tellers make you want to jump up and start living your life, start really living YOUR story.
I have been seeing glimpses into Stephanie’s life on her blog StephanieMay.com (formerly The Lipstick Gospel) for quite some time, and each time I open the page to dive into her heart, I am captivated.
And so, I am super excited to share with you...her new book!!! ( If I could, I would use even more exclamation marks...it’s just THAT GOOD !!) It’s called...The Lipstick Gospel ...and I can honestly say that I read it in one night...stopping only a few times to fill up my cup of cinnamon tea or have a good cry.
The Lipstick Gospel is Stephanie’s story; vulnerable, real and honest. It tells of a pilgrimage that brought her from being the broken insecure, sorority girl that she was, to the confident, fun, adventurous daughter of the King.
And as I read it curled up on my bunk bed here in Nairobi, I was reminded of my own story, and how nine years ago God carried me to the other side of the world, to Taiwan, to meet with Him....though I had no idea that that’s what was happening. It made me remember the people who patiently have walked beside me through my brokenness, with no pretense, no expectation, just realness and love. It reminded me more of the kind of Christian that I want to be...one that loves God and loves people...and doesn’t buy into the rules and man-made expectations of religion.
I think what I liked best, was that The Lipstick Gospel also met me right where I am. Today. It reminded me that though it can be scary to ask God to heal your heart ...because it means letting go of something...or someone... that brought comfort, He really does write the best stories...we just have to trust Him enough with each chapter.
